EQUICHILD EQUINE PLAY PROGRAM
Founded by Dianna.K

The Equichild Equine Play Program is a purposeful, play-based approach that supports children’s learning, wellbeing, and development through meaningful relationships with ponies. Grounded in early childhood education and play therapy-informed practice, the program reflects the EYLF principles of belonging, being and becoming, offering children a calm, engaging environment where they feel safe, valued, and supported to grow.

Through carefully scaffolded equine play experiences, children are supported to develop key social, emotional, cognitive, and physical capabilities. Learning is child-centred and responsive, with each session guided by children’s interests, strengths, and emerging needs. The presence of ponies creates a respectful, non-judgemental relationship that supports emotional awareness, empathy, self-regulation, resilience, and wellbeing.

Equichild Equine Play promotes children as confident and involved learners, encouraging curiosity, problem-solving, communication, and active participation through play. Experiences are intentionally designed to strengthen children’s sense of identity, support positive relationships, and foster growing independence in ways that feel achievable and meaningful.

The program is suitable for children who benefit from early intervention, additional support, or enrichment, and aligns with NDIS Early Childhood Intervention and Capacity Building goals. It complements family priorities, kindergarten programs, and everyday learning environments, supporting continuity of learning across settings.

For families, Equichild offers a nurturing, relationship-based program where children experience success, build capability, and develop a strong sense of self.
For practitioners, the program provides a clear, implementable framework that aligns equine-assisted practice with EYLF-informed, strength-based pedagogy, supporting intentional teaching within early childhood and therapeutic contexts.
